Sensex slides for 5th straight day, closes 556 pts lower; Nifty dips under 24,900; Trent slumps 4%, POWERGRID down 3%
Indian benchmarks declined for the fifth consecutive session on Thursday, with the Sensex and Nifty pressured by financials and IT counters, as continuous foreign fund withdrawals and concerns over U.S. visa restrictions dampened sentiment.
The S&P BSE Sensex slipped 555.95 points, or 0.7%, to settle at 81,159.68, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell 166.05 points, or 0.7%, finishing at 24,890.85. The weakness was widespread, led by banks and technology heavyweights.
