Sensex soars over 500 points, Nifty reclaims 24,850; IT leads sectoral gains.
Indian benchmark indices advanced on Monday, staging a rebound after two consecutive sessions of declines, even as persistent geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran continued to cloud global market sentiment.
Out of the 13 major sectoral indices, nine ended in the red. Broader markets underperformed, with the smallcap and midcap segments shedding around 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively.
Both Sensex and Nifty recorded weekly losses on Friday, pressured by escalating tensions in the Middle East following Israeli strikes on Iran. The conflict intensified over the weekend with renewed attacks, deepening investor unease.
Crude oil prices climbed on concerns of potential supply disruptions in the Middle East posing a risk for India, a major importer of oil.
