Sensex tumbles 600 points, Nifty slips below 25,550; Nifty Media index under heavy pressure

Indian stock markets continued their downward trajectory on Monday, as the Sensex and Nifty prolonged a sharp sell-off that has wiped out nearly ₹17 lakh crore in investor wealth over the past six trading sessions. Ongoing domestic and global uncertainties have left market participants increasingly cautious. Indian equities closed in the red on Friday, with benchmark indices extending losses for a fifth consecutive session amid concerns over global trade tensions and political uncertainty in the US. Early optimism at the opening bell proved short-lived, as renewed selling dragged markets lower within minutes. The BSE Sensex plunged 604.72 points, or 0.72%, to settle at 83,576.24, while the NSE Nifty 50 dropped 193.55 points, or 0.75%, to close at 25,683.30.
