Stock Market Close: Sensex Plunges 1,340 Points; Nifty Slips Below 23,900 Amid Oil Supply Concerns Linked to US–Iran Tensions

Stock Market : After a brief one-day respite, benchmark indices returned to their downward trajectory as a spike in global crude oil prices dampened investor confidence. Share Market Today: Indian benchmark equity indices resumed their decline following a short pause, with rising oil prices weighing heavily on market sentiment amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The Nifty50 dropped 1.63% (394.75 points) to finish at 23,866.85, while the Sensex tumbled 1,342.27 points (1.72%) to close at 76,863.71. Investor unease grew after reports that three vessels were hit by projectiles near Iran’s coast, with one ship catching fire and its crew forced to abandon the vessel. The development heightened fears of possible disruptions to global energy supply chains and key maritime trade routes in the region. From a sectoral perspective, the Nifty Auto index emerged as the biggest laggard, sliding over 3% during the session. The Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Private Bank indices also ended the day in negative territory. Conversely, defensive sectors showed relative strength. The Nifty Pharma index led the gainers among sectoral indices, while the Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty Healthcare indices also finished the session on a positive note Investment in securities market are subject to market risks.
