Stock Market Highlights: Sensex ends 398 points higher, Nifty reclaims 25,150; HCLTECH Tech, ULTRACEMCO h gain 2% each.
Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, closed higher on Thursday, driven by advances in IT and metal counters. Investor sentiment improved ahead of Tata Consultancy Services’ quarterly results, while a rebound in base metal prices added further traction to the rally.
The S&P BSE Sensex climbed 398.44 points (0.49%) to close at 82,172.10, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 135.65 points (0.54%) to settle at 25,181.80.
Metal stocks rallied 2.2%, emerging as top gainers among sectoral indices, as base metal prices firmed up amid supply constraints at major global mines, including Freeport’s Grasberg mine in Indonesia.
The IT index gained 1.1%, marking its sixth consecutive session of gains, up nearly 6% cumulatively. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) advanced 1.1% ahead of its September-quarter earnings announcement later in the day.
Broader markets also remained buoyant, with mid-cap and small-cap indices rising 1% and 0.6%, respectively.
