Stock Market Holiday: Are Indian Markets Shut Today for Guru Nanak Jayanti 2025?

As per the 2025 trading holiday schedule released by the stock exchanges earlier this year, a total of 14 market holidays have been listed. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed for trading today, Wednesday, November 5, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti, according to the official BSE holiday calendar. Trading across all segments — equities, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts — will be suspended for the entire day on both exchanges. Meanwhile, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will stay shut during the morning session but will reopen for evening trading from 5 PM onward. This marks the only market holiday in November and the penultimate holiday of the year. Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is a gazetted holiday in India celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder and first Guru of Sikhism.
