Stock Market LIVE: GIFT Nifty signals a strong opening, surges 240 pts; Nikkei rallies 5% after Takaichi’s landmark victory

GIFT Nifty was hovering around the 25,938.5 mark, up 241 points or 0.94 per cent, pointing to a firm opening for domestic equities amid upbeat global cues. Monday, February 9, 2026: Indian benchmark indices—Sensex and Nifty—are expected to kick off the week on a positive note on Monday, following the joint statement issued by India and the US on Friday, February 6, 2026. The statement outlined a framework for an Interim Trade Agreement (ITA), building on the trade deal announced earlier last week. GIFT Nifty was trading at 25,938.5, higher by 241 points or 0.94 per cent. Asian equity markets were largely in the green on Monday, led by a sharp rally in Japanese stocks, which touched record highs after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi clinched a historic electoral win. At the last count, Japan’s Nikkei 225 had gained 4.5 per cent, South Korea’s KOSPI was up 4.4 per cent, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced 1.57 per cent.
