gain up to 2%

Synopsis: Indian equity markets experienced intense volatility on Thursday, witnessing a steep decline followed by a strong rebound. Despite the turbulence, both the Sensex and Nifty managed to finish in positive territory for the second straight session of the new financial year 2027, albeit with modest gains. During early trading hours, remarks by Donald Trump indicating that the US could escalate its military action against Iran in the coming weeks unsettled investor sentiment. The Sensex plunged near 1,600 points to touch an intraday low of 71,546, while the Nifty 50 dropped nearly 500 points, briefly slipping to 22,182. The sharp sell-off erased approximately ₹11 lakh crore from the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies. However, sentiment shifted in the afternoon session as strong buying interest emerged, helping the indices recover all their losses and move into positive territory. The Sensex rebounded nearly 2,000 points, while the Nifty surged around 600 points to hit their respective intraday highs before trimming some gains. By the closing bell, the Sensex was up 185 points at 73,319.55, while the Nifty advanced 34 points to settle at 22,713. Both benchmark indices closed significantly higher—nearly 1,800 points and over 530 points above their respective intraday lows. Investment in securities market are subject to market risks.
