Stock Market Recap: Sensex extends losing streak to third session, slips 120 points; Nifty closes at 25,818; consumer durables weaken

India’s benchmark equity indices closed in negative territory for the third straight day on Wednesday, dragged down by losses in media, real estate, and consumer durables stocks. By the closing bell at around 3:30 PM, the BSE Sensex settled at 84,559.65, registering a decline of 120.21 points or 0.14 percent. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50 ended at 25,818.55, down 41.55 points or 0.16 percent. Shares of

featured among the top performers on the Sensex, gaining up to 1.5 percent. On the other hand, stocks such as

ADANIPORTS
, and
BAJAJFINSV
weighed on the index. Broader markets also witnessed selling pressure, with the BSE MidCap index falling 0.54 percent and the SmallCap index declining 0.73 percent. On the sectoral front, Nifty Media emerged as the worst performer, sliding 1.7 percent. It was followed by losses in Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Chemicals. Conversely, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty IT indices managed to close in the green. In commodities, MCX Silver futures for March surged to fresh all-time highs near the ₹2,05,665 mark. In the forex market, supported by RBI intervention, the Indian rupee recovered and strengthened to 89.81 against the US dollar on Wednesday.
