India's key equity benchmarks finished lower on Monday, weighed down by disappointing quarterly earnings, stalled trade talks with the U.S., new job cuts in the IT sector, and persistent foreign investor selling. The 30-share Sensex declined by 572.07 points or 0.7% to settle at 80,891.02, while the Nifty slipped 156.10 points or 0.63% to close at 24,680.90. Both indices have now recorded losses for four consecutive weeks.
The total market value of all companies listed on the BSE contracted by ₹4.88 lakh crore, bringing the overall market capitalization down to ₹447.85 lakh crore. Broader markets also participated in the downturn, with mid-cap and small-cap indices falling by 0.8% and 1.3% respectively, reflecting widespread weakness.
