Stock Market Today, 2 June: Bears Take Charge as June Opens in Red; 3 Tata Stocks Among Top Losers

Domestic benchmark indices kicked off June on a weak note, with sharp declines seen across key sectors. On Monday, the BSE Sensex opened nearly 200 points lower at 81,214.42 and plunged over 600 points to hit an intraday low of 80,654.26, compared to Friday’s close of 81,451.01. It later trimmed losses to settle slightly lower at 81,370. The NSE Nifty 50 also started in the red, opening at 24,669.70 before slipping to an intraday low of 24,526.15. However, it managed to recover some ground and closed above the 24,700 mark. Renewed concerns over US tariffs and broad-based selling in IT and metal stocks dragged the market lower. Notably, three Tata Group stocks were among the biggest losers of the session. Meanwhile, market volatility spiked, with the India VIX surging nearly 7% intraday to touch 17.73, indicating heightened investor anxiety.
