Reliance Trails HDFC and ICICI in Nifty 50 Weight Despite Being India's Most Valuable Firm
📊 RELIANCE , India’s most valuable company by market capitalization, ranks only third in the Nifty 50 index with an 8.18% weight — behind HDFC Bank (12.87%) and ICICI Bank (8.52%). The gap stems from Nifty’s free-float market cap methodology, which excludes promoter holdings. With about half its shares held by promoters, Reliance’s free-float share is limited compared to HDFC and ICICI, where public holdings exceed 80%. Financials dominate the index with a 36.47% weight, followed by IT (9.91%) and energy (9.79%). Reliance shares slipped 1.3% to ₹1,367.3 after recent gains.
