TATAs TRUST IS SHAKING--> N. Chandrasekaran's reappointment.
BREAKING: Tata Trusts Says Chandrasekaran's Reappointment Is Legally Invalid — What Happens Next?
A major corporate-governance battle is unfolding at Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group.
Tata Trusts has now said that N. Chandrasekaran's reappointment as Chairman of Tata Sons was not validly passed and has “no legal effect.”
The statement comes just days after the Tata Sons board approved a fresh five-year term for Chandrasekaran.
--->What Happened?
On September 17, the Tata Sons board approved:
• A fresh 5-year term for N. Chandrasekaran
• Steps toward a potential Tata Sons listing
The board reportedly approved Chandrasekaran's reappointment by a 4–1 vote, with Noel Tata voting against the proposal.
But Tata Trusts is challenging the validity of that decision.
Former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud has also provided a legal opinion supporting the Trusts' interpretation, according to the Trusts and reporting by Moneycontrol.
However, Tata Sons has a different legal position, with its side arguing that the reappointment was valid. The dispute therefore remains unresolved.
----->Why Does This Matter?
Tata Trusts controls approximately 66% of Tata Sons, making the dispute much bigger than a normal boardroom disagreement.
Tata Sons sits at the centre of the Tata Group and has stakes in major listed businesses including:
• TCS
