T+0 settlement!
SEBI is considering T+0 settlement for the future for all stocks. T+0, or Trade Date Plus Zero, refers to a settlement cycle where the delivery of securities and corresponding payment occur on the same business day as the trade day. In simpler terms, if you place a ‘buy’ order with your broker today, the securities/shares will get credited to your demat account on the same day i.e. today. Similarly, if you place a ‘sell’ order today for selling your shares with your broker, the securities/shares will get debited from your demat account and the money will get credited to your bank account today itself. This stands in contrast to the existing T+1 (Trade Day Plus One) settlement cycle, where the settlement takes place one business day after the trade day.
