ational Limited (KEC) rallied 5.79% on October 12, the first session after it announced new orders worth ₹1,014 crore in its India transmission and distribution (T&D) business. The orders were disclosed on Saturday, October 10.
The orders include KEC's first project for a 765 kV transmission line, which will evacuate power from a pumped storage plant (PSP) in Western India. The client is an existing customer. With these wins, year-to-date order intake has crossed ₹9,600 crore.
The order flow is picking up quickly. This comes just days after KEC reported ₹1,030 crore of orders across T&D, renewables and cables on October 8. Year-to-date intake has nearly doubled from over ₹5,200 crore in July. The first 765 kV order also matters, since it moves KEC into the highest-voltage segment of India's grid build-out, linked to storage and renewable energy.
Key details are still missing. KEC has not named the client, disclosed the value of the 765 kV line alone or given an execution timeline. The stock had already risen 4.62% to ₹365.75 on Friday, so the market has priced in two order announcements within a week. Order wins only add value once they turn into revenue at healthy margins.
Investors should watch the execution timeline, margins on new T&D projects, the overall order book in Q2 FY27 results, and working capital. The key question is whether KEC can convert its strong order intake into steady revenue and cash flow growth.
