(ZYDUSLIFE) fell 2.1% to ₹1,109 in early trade on October 14, after a USFDA inspection of its Moraiya, Ahmedabad plant ended with five observations. The stock had closed at ₹1,131 on the BSE on October 13.
The inspection ran from October 5 to October 13, 2026, and the company said it will work with the USFDA to address the observations quickly. On the same day, Zydus and partner Formycon AG said the USFDA had accepted their application for FYB206, a proposed biosimilar to the cancer drug Keytruda (pembrolizumab), for review.
The two updates pull in opposite directions. Observations at a US-facing plant can delay approvals or raise compliance costs, depending on how serious they are. The FYB206 acceptance is a longer-term positive. Keytruda is one of the world's top-selling cancer drugs, and Zydus holds exclusive rights in the US and Canada. Bernstein sees about 29% upside, saying the acceptance reinforces its investment view.
Neither event is final yet. The nature of the five observations is not disclosed, so it is unclear whether they are procedural or serious. The FYB206 decision is not expected until around the third quarter of 2027, based on the 12-month review timeline. Meanwhile, North America formulation sales fell 2.6% year-on-year last quarter, so the US business needs new growth drivers.
Investors should watch the USFDA's final classification of the Moraiya inspection, any warning letter or import alert, FYB206's review progress, and US sales trends in Q2 FY27 results. The key question is whether the plant observations get resolved without disrupting the US pipeline.
