Powergrid authorizes an investment of ₹705.51 crore for emergency infrastructure and grid communication.

The initiatives were approved by the company's Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects at its meeting on September 26. A VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) communication system would be established throughout all five regional grids—Northern, North Eastern, Southern, Western, and Eastern—as part of the initial project, which is estimated to cost ₹209.68 crore. It is anticipated that this project, which is scheduled for commissioning on August 23, 2026, will enhance efficiency and coordination in the management of India's electricity transmission network. Under the Make in India campaign, the second project, which has a budget of ₹495.83 crore, would buy 20 sets (300 towers) of Emergency Restoration Systems (ERS). This system, which is expected to be put into service by April 19, 2027, is intended to quickly restore transmission lines in the event of infrastructure failures or natural disasters, enhancing India's resilience in terms of essential power supply.
