Ashok Leyland Bags ₹669 Crore Order for 1,937 Buses from Tamil Nadu Govt

ASHOKLEY
. announced a major ₹668.76 crore order from the Tamil Nadu government for 1,937 fully built and chassis buses, awarded through the Institute of Road Transport. The order includes 1,701 BS-VI diesel chassis and low-floor buses to be delivered between October 2025 and March 2026, and another 236 semi-low-floor BS-VI diesel buses by January 2027. The vehicles will be deployed across Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings, reflecting the company’s strong foothold in the state’s public mobility space. Recently, Ashok Leyland outlined plans to localise its EV supply chain, especially in battery manufacturing, with an investment of about ₹5,000 crore, as 40–50% of EV costs come from batteries. The company expects truck demand in FY26 to exceed the industry’s 3–5% growth forecast and has increased its capex plan to over ₹1,000 crore for the fiscal year, highlighting its commitment to expansion and sustainable mobility.
