Ather Energy gets IRDAI approval for insurance business
Ather Energy gets IRDAI nod to sell life, health and general insurance
Ather Energy Limited has received IRDAI approval for its wholly owned subsidiary, Ather Insurance, to distribute life, general and health insurance products.
The registration took effect on October 15, 2026, allowing the subsidiary to operate as a composite corporate agent.
The move could create an additional revenue stream by offering insurance to Ather’s existing electric two-wheeler customers through its retail network. It may also strengthen customer engagement beyond vehicle sales and servicing.
My view: The approval supports Ather Energy’s revenue diversification, but the financial contribution remains uncertain. The company has not disclosed a launch timeline, insurance partners or revenue targets. The opportunity will depend on customer uptake and commission income, rather than the approval alone.
I will watch for details on the rollout and future disclosures on insurance-related earnings to assess whether this becomes a meaningful business segment.
Ather Energy shares closed at ₹1,470 on the NSE on October 16, 2026, unchanged from the previous close. The development is positive for diversification, but its earnings impact needs to be demonstrated.
