Bharat Dynamics Strengthens Order Book with ₹1,348 Crore HAL Contract and Expansion Plans
Bharat Dynamics Ltd ($BDL) has secured fresh orders worth ₹1,347.71 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), reinforcing its position in India’s growing defence ecosystem. The contract includes Helina launchers and line replaceable units (LRUs) valued at ₹1,109.37 crore, along with countermeasure dispensing system (CMDS) LRUs worth ₹238.34 crore, with execution scheduled over 24 to 60 months. The order comes as BDL continues to benefit from rising domestic requirements and potential export opportunities, with reports indicating growing international interest in India’s defence systems. Despite a subdued FY26 performance due to slower project execution and margin pressures, the company is expanding its manufacturing capabilities to support future growth. Employee costs increased to 22% of sales from 16% a year ago, while other expenses rose to 19% from 16%. Material costs remained around 50% of sales sequentially and improved significantly year-on-year to 38% from 59%. To support its existing order book of around ₹26,000 crore and its expectation of securing additional orders worth ₹15,000 crore in FY27, the company is setting up two new manufacturing facilities at Ibrahimpatnam in Telangana and Jhansi in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor. The Ibrahimpatnam unit will house eight assembly lines and advanced testing infrastructure for future weapon systems, while the Jhansi facility will focus on propellants and large-scale production of Grad rockets, highlighting Bharat Dynamics’ long-term strategy to enhance capacity, diversify operations and capitalize on the increasing opportunities in the defence sector.
