BHEL Signs Tech Pact with BARC to Cut Green Hydrogen Costs

BHEL
has partnered with BARC to access their in-house diaphragm tech for Mixed-Matrix Membrane used in alkaline electrolysers. This tech replaces costly imports like Zirfon and asbestos diaphragms, aiming to cut costs in hydrogen production. With this move, BHEL will start indigenously manufacturing electrolysers, reducing import reliance and pushing forward the National Green Hydrogen Mission and Make in India goals. Electrolysers are critical for generating green hydrogen from renewable energy, key for sectors like steel, fertilisers, and transport. While financials of the deal weren’t disclosed, this could open up a cost-efficient path for BHEL in the clean energy value chain. One to watch as India scales up its hydrogen infrastructure.
