Biocon’s USFDA Nod for Sitagliptin Adds to Portfolio Amid Profit Pressures
Biocon Pharma, a subsidiary of
BIOCON
, has secured tentative approval from the USFDA for Sitagliptin tablets (25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg), a widely used diabetes drug. This strengthens Biocon’s presence in the US generics market and adds to its diabetes portfolio. However, the timing is important, Biocon is facing earnings pressure.
In Q1FY26, net profit dropped 95% YoY to ₹31.4 crore (vs ₹659.7 crore last year), far below street expectations. Revenue grew 14.8% YoY to ₹3,942 crore, but still missed estimates of ₹4,096 crore. EBITDA rose 20.7% to ₹749 crore, with margins at 19% versus 18.1% a year ago, but lower than the expected 20.8%.
