Biocon Subsidiary Secures USFDA Nod for Rifaximin Tablets to Treat Gastrointestinal Disorders

’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Biocon Pharma Ltd., in partnership with Carnegie Pharmaceuticals, has received tentative approval from the USFDA for its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for Rifaximin Tablets 550 mg. The drug, a rifamycin antibacterial, is indicated for reducing the risk of recurrence of overt hepatic encephalopathy and for treating irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D) in adults. This marks another step forward in Biocon’s efforts to expand its US generics portfolio. The company’s management earlier emphasized its strong positioning for long-term growth in FY26 and beyond, supported by strategic capacity expansion through its US acquisitions by Biocon Generics and Syngene.
