In Union Budget 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the “Biopharma Shakti” programme with a ₹10,000 crore outlay over the next five years to build a robust domestic biologics and biosimilars ecosystem and position India as a global biopharma manufacturing hub; this strategic capital commitment includes setting up three new biopharma-focused NIPER institutes, upgrading seven existing ones, establishing a network of 1,000+ accredited clinical trial sites, and strengthening regulatory processes to meet global standards moves designed to accelerate research, innovation and production capabilities.
