Coal India Partners with France’s EDF for Renewable Energy Expansion
Coal India has taken a strategic step toward diversifying its energy portfolio by partnering with EDF India, a subsidiary of France’s EDF, to develop pumped-storage hydropower projects and other renewable energy initiatives across India and neighboring countries. This 50-50 joint venture aligns with India's broader push toward clean energy and grid stability.
The agreement comes as EDF strengthens its presence in India, also securing a joint venture with NTPC to explore hydropower projects and power distribution opportunities. For Coal India, this marks a significant shift from coal dependence to a more balanced energy mix, reinforcing its long-term sustainability strategy.
With increasing policy support for renewables and a growing need for energy storage solutions, this partnership could play a crucial role in India's clean energy transition.
