Coal India’s ₹1,057 Cr Clean Energy Pivot Signals Strategic Shift

has secured a major ₹1,057.09 crore contract from Telangana Power Generation Corporation to develop a 750 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Choutuppal, capable of delivering 187.5 MW power for 4 hours, marking a significant step in its diversification beyond coal into clean energy infrastructure. The project, awarded via a Letter of Award on March 28, 2026, is to be executed within 18 months of signing the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement, with a fixed tariff of ₹3.14 lakh per MW per month, and requires submission of necessary documents and performance guarantees within 15 days.
