Fortis Healthcare acquires Suguna Hospital for ₹277 crore
Fortis Healthcare Limited acquired Bengaluru-based Suguna Hospital for ₹277 crore in an all-cash deal completed on October 28, 2026.
The acquisition includes a 110-bed multi-specialty hospital in Rajajinagar, with potential to expand to 150 beds. Suguna Hospital generated approximately ₹50 crore in revenue in FY26.
The deal follows Fortis Healthcare's acquisition of People Tree Hospital in January 2026. Together with its existing facilities, the company is building a stronger presence in north-west Bengaluru. Its operational bed capacity across Bengaluru is expected to reach around 1,000 beds, including operations and management facilities.
My view: The acquisition strengthens Fortis Healthcare's regional presence and provides room to grow through additional beds, specialised clinical services and infrastructure upgrades. However, the ₹277 crore purchase price is about 5.5 times Suguna Hospital's FY26 revenue. Revenue alone does not establish whether the deal will create value.
The key factors will be operating margins, integration costs, capital expenditure and the time required to improve profitability. The expansion makes strategic sense if Fortis can increase utilisation and earnings without putting pressure on returns.
Fortis Healthcare shares closed 3.12% higher at ₹759.50 on October 28, gaining ₹23 for the day. However, the stock remains down 7.6% over the past month and 15.66% year to date.
My stance: The acquisition is positive for long-term capacity expansion, but execution and profitability will determine its value. I would watch quarterly earnings, margins and progress on capacity expansion before drawing a stronger conclusion.
