GAIL
has approved a ₹10,675 crore investment into Talcher Fertilizers through a rights issue, subscribing to 106.75 crore equity shares at ₹10 each. The move signals a long-term strategic focus on backward integration in fertiliser manufacturing through coal gasification technology. Talcher Fertilizers is a JV between GAIL, Coal India, and RCF (each holding 33.333%), with FCIL holding a symbolic 0.0002%.The investment reinforces the government’s agenda on urea self-sufficiency and domestic energy security.
Operationally, GAIL reported standalone Q4FY25 revenue of ₹35,685 crore, up 2.1% YoY, while net profit halved to ₹2,049 crore, slightly below estimates. However, EBITDA rose 13.3% YoY to ₹3,216 crore, with margins expanding to 9% from 8.1% sequentially. The transaction, expected to close by July 9, 2025, adds a structural layer to GAIL’s growth outlook, especially as India balances its energy and agri-input needs.
