Godrej Properties challenges Eternia EC revocation
Godrej Properties Limited challenged MoEFCC’s September 30, 2026 decision to revoke the Environmental Clearance for Godrej Eternia in Chandigarh. The project is located 6.6 km from the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary boundary.
MoEFCC alleged that the project required Standing Committee of NBWL clearance because it falls within 10 km of the sanctuary. Godrej Properties disputes this, citing the January 18, 2017 notification that set the notified ESZ at a maximum of 2.75 km. The company says Eternia is outside this limit and its EC did not require NBWL clearance.
My view: the 6.6 km versus 2.75 km distance is the key issue. If the NGT accepts the company’s interpretation, the EC revocation could be overturned. Until the NGT order, the regulatory uncertainty remains the main risk.
Godrej Properties Limited closed at ₹1,595.80 on the NSE, down 2.01%. I would watch the NGT proceedings and any interim order as the next trigger.
