HAL Secures ₹511 Cr SSLV Technology from ISRO

HAL
has officially won the ₹511 crore bid to acquire ISRO’s Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology, one of the most comprehensive space technology transfers in India to date. The agreement allows HAL to fully build, own, and commercialize SSLV launches, marking the first time a complete launch vehicle system is being handed over to an Indian company. HAL is expected to manufacture 6–8 SSLV rockets per year, with each launch estimated to generate $6.5 million in revenue. The transfer positions HAL as the sole SSLV manufacturer in India within the next two years, supporting India’s aspirations in the $44 billion global space economy. The deal includes structured training by ISRO for two full SSLV launches, and HAL is expected to drive the phase-wise development of an indigenous satellite launch ecosystem. Competing bids from Alpha Design Technologies (with Agnikul Cosmos and Walchand) and Bharat Dynamics (in partnership with Skyroot, BHEL, and Keltron) were evaluated over several months before HAL emerged as the final winner. This development signals a shift toward deeper private-sector participation in India’s space infrastructure buildout. Follow me for more such updates, Thank You!
