HAL to Build Final Assembly Line in India for Russia’s SJ-100 Regional Jet

) has taken a strategic step into commercial aviation by announcing plans to set up a final assembly line in India for Russia’s SJ-100 regional passenger aircraft in partnership with United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), formalising a collaboration that aims to localise production rights and support the aircraft’s certification and manufacturing roadmap over the next few years; under the agreement, HAL will assist with type certificate validation and gain a licence to produce, sell and maintain the twin-engine, narrow-body jet which seats around 100 passengers while UAC will provide design and technical support to re-equip production facilities, with the arrangement marking the first full passenger jet production initiative in India in decades and positioning HAL to contribute to regional connectivity and the growing domestic aerospace ecosystem.
