Hindustan Zinc Expands Renewable Energy Commitment with 530 MW RTC Power Agreement
Hindustan Zinc has reinforced its clean energy strategy by signing a power delivery agreement (PDA) with Serentica Renewables to increase its renewable energy capacity to 530 MW, up from the previously contracted 450 MW. This move raises the company's renewable energy contribution to over 70% of its total power requirement, marking a significant step towards its Net Zero target by 2050 or sooner. The agreement ensures a minimum of 315 MW of uninterrupted power supply in every 15-minute block, effectively addressing energy intermittency risks.
The project, expected to be fully operational by 2027, will integrate solar, wind, and energy storage solutions across high-resource locations in India. As India’s largest integrated zinc producer and the world’s second-largest, Hindustan Zinc continues to decarbonize its operations, reducing dependency on conventional energy sources. CEO Arun Misra emphasized that this strategic shift will drive a nearly 70% reduction in carbon emissions.
