India's NMP 2.0 Targets ₹16.72 Lakh Crore Asset Monetisation

India's government has unveiled National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) 2.0, aiming to generate ₹16.72 lakh crore from public sector assets over five years to fund infrastructure under the Viksit Bharat initiative. This follows NMP 1.0's success, which realized nearly 90% of its ₹6 lakh crore goal. Key strategies involve partial stake sales in PSUs like

GAIL
(via Gas IPO in FY28 and city gas divestments),
COALINDIA
(₹48,350 crore from subsidiaries), and Airports Authority of India (₹12,550 crore from ventures). Power sector dilutions target ₹31,000 crore by 2030, while hotel redevelopments (Ashok in FY27, Samrat in FY30) aim for ₹1,200 crore. Proceeds allocate 43% to the Consolidated Fund, 39% to private investment, 15% to PSUs/ports, and 4% to states, using tools like IPOs, InvITs, and PPPs. Highways lead at ₹4.42 lakh crore, followed by ports and power, unlocking assets for private capital and growth.
