India & Sri Lanka Join Forces for Solar Power in Trincomalee

Sri Lanka and India have agreed to set up solar power plants in Trincomalee’s Sampur region, marking a key step in renewable energy collaboration. The project, a joint venture between Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and India’s NTPC, will be developed in two phases—50 MW in Stage 1 and 70 MW in Stage 2. This initiative replaces an earlier plan for a coal power plant, reinforcing the shift towards clean energy. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka remains open to renegotiating terms with Adani Group, after they withdrew from a separate green energy project due to pricing concerns.
