Indian Oil & Akasa Air Team Up to Explore Cleaner Fuel for Aviation
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (
IOC
) and Akasa Air have formally initiated talks by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) at Wings India 2026 in Hyderabad to explore the potential future supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a lower-carbon alternative to conventional jet fuel aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions in air travel. Under this collaboration, both companies will jointly assess possible SAF supply volumes, delivery locations, timelines, and the use of approved sustainable feedstocks and production pathways that comply with global aviation standards, laying the groundwork for a future low-carbon fuel ecosystem for flights. This step marks a strategic move by India’s largest commercial oil firm and one of the country’s fastest-growing airlines to support Akasa Air’s sustainability goals while contributing to the broader aviation sector’s transition towards net-zero emissions.
