IndiGo Faces Over ₹1,180 Crore Exposure from DGCA Order on 2025 Disruptions

India's DGCA issued a final enforcement order on January 16, 2026, against

INDIGO
for widespread flight disruptions in December 2025, resulting from operational over-optimization, inadequate crew rostering buffers, and lapses in management oversight and compliance with Flight Duty Time Limitation norms over 68 days. The regulator imposed a ₹22.20 crore penalty, comprising ₹1.80 crore in one-time systemic fines and ₹20.40 crore for non-compliance, alongside a ₹50 crore bank guarantee under the IndiGo Systemic Reform Assurance Scheme to enforce reforms in leadership, manpower, rostering, and digital resilience. IndiGo must release the guarantee in phases upon verified compliance. Passenger-related costs dominate the impact: over ₹500 crore in compensation for severely affected travelers, plus ₹10,000 "Gesture of Care" vouchers for those impacted December 3-5, and ₹610 crore in refunds processed by December 7 (expected to rise further), yielding a direct P&L hit exceeding ₹522 crore and total exposure beyond ₹1,180 crore. DGCA noted IndiGo's swift operational recovery and will monitor via compliance milestones rather than additional penalties.
