JSW Energy Secures Second 1,600 MW PPA at Salboni, Scaling Thermal Portfolio

JSW Thermal Energy Two Limited, a subsidiary of

, has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) for a greenfield 1,600 MW coal-based thermal power project at Salboni, West Bengal. The project will comprise two units of 800 MW each and is targeted to be commissioned within six years, using domestic linkage coal allocated to West Bengal under the SHAKTI B policy.​ This agreement is the company’s second 1,600 MW PPA with WBSEDCL for Salboni, taking the planned site capacity to 3,200 MW and making it JSW Energy’s largest single-location asset. Management highlights operational synergies and proximity to coal blocks as key drivers of cost and efficiency benefits, given the existing 1,600 MW unit already under construction at the same location.​ JSW Energy currently operates 5,658 MW of thermal capacity and, with Salboni under construction and an option to add 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi, expects total thermal capacity to increase to 10,658 MW, fully based on domestic coal. Overall locked-in generation capacity stands at 32.1 GW (13.3 GW operational, 14 GW under construction, 150 MW hydro under acquisition, and a 4.6 GW pipeline), alongside 29.4 GWh of energy storage (26.4 GWh hydro pumped storage and 3 GWh battery storage), supporting its targets of 30 GW generation and 40 GWh storage by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
