JSW Steel Begins ₹65,000 Crore Mega Steel Plant Project in Odisha
JSW Steel ($JSWSTEEL) has officially started work on its massive 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) greenfield integrated steel plant at Paradeep, Odisha, marking one of the company’s largest expansion projects to date. The project will be developed in multiple phases with an estimated investment of around ₹65,000 crore and will span nearly 2,950 acres along Odisha’s coastline. The strategic coastal location is expected to provide strong port connectivity, efficient logistics and easier access to raw materials, supporting both domestic demand and export opportunities. The project launch event was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, senior government officials and JSW Steel Chairman and Managing Director Sajjan Jindal, highlighting the importance of the investment for the state’s industrial growth. The company stated that the plant aligns with the Government of India’s Mission Purvodaya initiative focused on accelerating industrial development in eastern India. Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly enhance India’s steelmaking capacity while strengthening Odisha’s position as a key steel manufacturing hub. The project also reflects growing confidence in India’s long-term infrastructure and manufacturing growth story, with JSW Steel aiming to build a world-class steel production ecosystem in the region.
