has entered into a 50:50 joint venture with South Korea’s POSCO to set up a 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated steel plant in Odisha. The project will be executed through Saffron Resources, which already holds 887 acres of land (595 acres freehold + 292 acres leasehold), while POSCO will invest around ₹508.8 crore for its stake. The proposed plant, expected to be completed by 2031, has received state-level approval with a total estimated investment of ₹35,000 crore and is likely to generate around 8,000 jobs (direct and indirect).
Strategically, this marks POSCO’s re-entry into Odisha after nearly two decades and aligns with India’s growing steel demand, leveraging JSW’s execution capabilities and POSCO’s advanced technology to produce high-grade steel across segments like automotive and manufacturing. Overall, this JV not only strengthens domestic capacity but also positions India as a competitive global steel hub, reinforcing long-term industrial growth prospects.
