July Power Consumption Rises Just 2.6%

India’s power consumption rose modestly by 2.6% YoY to 153.63 billion units in July 2025, mainly due to widespread rainfall which reduced the use of cooling appliances like ACs and coolers. Peak demand also dipped to 220.59 GW from 226.63 GW last July, well below the 250 GW record in May 2024. The early arrival of the monsoon on May 24 and consistent rainfall brought down temperatures, capping power demand. This temporary softness may impact near-term revenues of thermal power generators like

NTPC
,
TATAPOWER
, and
JSWENERGY
, while distribution-focused players such as Adani Energy Solutions and PowerGrid might see mixed effects. However, once monsoon recedes and industrial demand picks up, power demand is expected to recover. On the flip side, lower cooling appliance sales may momentarily affect companies like
VOLTAS
BLUESTARCO
, and
WHIRLPOOL
, although structural demand remains intact for the medium term. Follow me for more such updates, Thank You!
