has announced a major step in India’s clean energy roadmap by taking on the construction of the country’s largest green hydrogen plant at Indian Oil’s Panipat refinery. Under a long-term Build-Own-Operate model, L&T will supply 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to IOCL for the next 25 years. The hydrogen will be produced using high-pressure alkaline electrolysers from L&T’s Hazira facility, supporting IOCL’s decarbonisation efforts and aligning with national net-zero targets.
Earlier this year, L&T had also signed an MoU with John Cockerill Energy to collaborate on solar thermal and energy storage technologies, reinforcing its broader focus on sustainable infrastructure. The stock reacted positively to the announcement, indicating investor confidence in L&T’s growing role in India’s energy transition. This development strengthens L&T’s positioning as a serious player in the green hydrogen space and could potentially open doors to similar long-duration energy partnerships going forward.
