Lupin Expands in US with Generic Heart Drug Rivaroxaban
LUPIN
has launched Rivaroxaban Tablets USP (2.5 mg) in the US market after receiving final approval from the US FDA for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA). This drug is a generic version of Xarelto (2.5 mg) by Janssen Pharmaceuticals and is used to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular and thrombotic vascular events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD). According to IQVIA MAT (Jan 2025), Rivaroxaban (2.5 mg) has an estimated annual sales of $446 million in the US, strengthening Lupin’s presence in the high-value anticoagulant market.
On the financial front, Lupin reported a 38.8% YoY profit growth in Q3, with ₹8,589 crore in PAT versus ₹6,187 crore last year. Revenue from operations surged 102.7% YoY to ₹57,677 crore, while EBITDA grew 25.1% YoY to ₹14,096 crore, expanding its EBITDA margin to 21.1%.
Lupin's technical structure indicates a strong rebound from a key support zone around 1848 on the daily chart, aligning with a similar support on the weekly timeframe near 1804.65. The stock has broken above the 9-day EMA (1951) and is approaching a critical resistance at 2110-2115, where the 70-day EMA and prior breakdown zone converge.
The weekly chart suggests a larger consolidation pattern after a strong multi-month uptrend, with the stock still holding above the 100-week EMA (1551), indicating long-term strength. RSI on the daily is at 51.78, suggesting mild bullish momentum, while the weekly RSI at 49.04 indicates a neutral to slightly oversold condition. A sustained move above 2115 could push the stock toward the 2206-2298 resistance zone, while failure to hold above 2000 may invite further downside toward 1848-1800.
