Maruti Suzuki Drives Ethanol Revolution with India’s First Flex-Fuel WagonR

$MARUTI has taken a significant step toward cleaner mobility by unveiling the WagonR Flex Fuel, India’s first mass market passenger vehicle capable of running on ethanol petrol blends ranging from E20 to E100, including 100% ethanol. The launch supports India’s broader goal of reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels, improving energy security and promoting sustainable transportation. During the unveiling, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted ongoing efforts to accelerate the adoption of alternative fuels, including plans to introduce diesel blended with 15% isobutanol and initiatives encouraging the conversion of older vehicles into flex fuel compatible models. The development comes as India strengthens its position as the world’s third largest automobile market while focusing on lower vehicle emissions and cleaner technologies. Maruti Suzuki also reaffirmed its long-term commitment to sustainability through investments in compressed biogas (CBG) projects and exploration of hydrogen based fuel solutions. Notably, the company stated that it contributed nearly 50% of all green vehicles sold in India during FY25, reflecting its growing role in the country's transition toward environmentally friendly mobility solutions.
