Nifty 50 Analysis - April 1, 2025

On April 1, 2025, the Nifty 50 dropped 353.65 points (-1.50%) to 23,165.70, while the Sensex tumbled 1,390.41 points (-1.80%), erasing nearly ₹3.2 lakh crore in market capitalization. The sell-off was driven by index heavyweights like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, Infosys, and TCS, which together pulled Nifty down by 200 points. This decline comes ahead of the U.S. President’s tariff announcement on April 2 and follows a sharp sell-off in U.S. markets last Friday. Midcap stocks showed resilience, falling less than the benchmark indices, keeping the advance-decline ratio slightly positive. Institutional flows were mixed FIIs net bought ₹2,014.18 crore in March but turned net sellers in April, offloading ₹5,901.63 crore. Meanwhile, DIIs continued their buying spree, investing ₹4,322.58 crore in April after net purchases of ₹37,585.68 crore in March. On the technical side, Nifty has broken out of a fallen wedge pattern, but strong resistance stands at 23,477.56 (100-day EMA). Holding above 23,170 could push it towards 23,800, while a drop below 22,800 may trigger further selling. Keep an eye on global market cues and institutional activity for further direction.
