NLC India Expands Into Battery Storage in Gujarat
NLC India Ltd is further diversifying its business beyond lignite mining and power generation, with its wholly owned subsidiary NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL) emerging as the successful bidder for a 275 MW/550 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Gujarat.
The project was awarded through Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd’s (GUVNL) tariff-based competitive bidding process, following which NIRL received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for project development. The development adds a utility-scale energy storage project to NLC India’s portfolio and aligns with its broader diversification strategy.
Separately, on June 12, 2026, NLC India was declared the preferred bidder for the Parvathapur Vanadium, Titanium and Aluminous Laterite Block in Telangana after the Ministry of Mines conducted the critical and strategic mineral block e-auction on June 11, 2026.
Located in Sangareddy district, the block contains minerals considered important for energy storage, defence, aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Together, these developments mark NLC India’s expansion into battery storage and critical minerals, areas identified as strategic under the government’s National Critical Mineral Mission.
