NTPC Limited Crosses 90 GW Milestone, Strengthening India’s Energy Future

, has crossed the significant milestone of 90 GW installed electricity generation capacity after the successful trial operation of the 800 MW Unit-2 at Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) in Jharkhand. The PVUNL project consists of 3 units of 800 MW each, with NTPC holding a 74% stake and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited owning the remaining 26%. Along with this achievement, the group currently has around 32 GW capacity under construction and has set an ambitious target of reaching 149 GW total installed capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources. In FY26 alone, NTPC added 5,488 MW of renewable energy capacity across solar, wind, and pumped storage projects, reflecting its aggressive push towards clean energy expansion. Beyond thermal power, the company is also expanding into battery storage, green hydrogen, pumped hydro, e-mobility, nuclear power, and waste-to-energy solutions, highlighting its long-term strategy to support India’s growing energy demand while gradually strengthening its renewable energy portfolio.
