Reliance Industries bets big on clean energy with bioenergy R&D and agrivoltaics

RELIANCE
at its 48th AGM announced a strong push into New Energy with plans to commission 55 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants this year and expand to over 500 by 2030. At Jamnagar, the company has set up the world’s largest Bioenergy Technology and R&D Centre, focused on advanced enzymes, microbial consortia, and high-yield energy crops to boost biogas output. Reliance is also building integrated energy hubs on wastelands that combine smart farms, modular CBG units, green hydrogen, agrivoltaics, and battery storage. A key innovation is agrivoltaics, where solar power and CBG production share land while biogenic CO₂ is captured for green chemicals, creating a pathway to fossil parity. This model aims to deliver triple value for farmers, green gas, green electricity, and higher rural incomes, while establishing a scalable growth engine for India’s clean energy future.
