Reliance Industries Enters Strategic Aerospace Partnership for India’s AMCA Engine Programme

Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce have announced a strategic partnership to explore the joint development of an indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, marking Reliance’s entry into a strategically important aerospace and defence opportunity. The companies plan to explore establishing an Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India that could cover the entire propulsion ecosystem, including engine design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and long-term support. The proposed collaboration combines Rolls-Royce’s advanced aircraft-engine and engineering expertise with Reliance’s technology, manufacturing scale and execution capabilities in India. The initiative is aligned with India’s broader objective of reducing dependence on imported defence technologies and developing domestic capabilities in critical aerospace systems. The proposed complex could also create opportunities beyond the AMCA programme across defence, civil aerospace, power and other advanced propulsion technologies. The AMCA is planned as India’s fifth-generation fighter aircraft, making an indigenous propulsion system strategically significant given the country’s long-standing reliance on foreign engine technology.
