Swan Defence and Mazagon Dock Join Forces to Build Advanced LPDs for Indian Navy

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd (SDHI) has entered into an exclusive teaming agreement with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (

MAZDOCK
) during India Maritime Week 2025 to jointly design and construct Landing Platform Docks (LPDs) for the Indian Navy. The collaboration follows the Defence Acquisition Council’s approval to procure LPDs, which are vital for enhancing India’s maritime power projection, amphibious operations, and disaster relief missions. Under this partnership, MDL will contribute its expertise in ship design, system integration, and project management, while SDHI will offer its state-of-the-art shipbuilding infrastructure — the largest in the country — for vessel construction. The alliance blends public-sector reliability with private-sector agility, aiming to deliver technologically advanced, cost-efficient, and globally competitive warships under India’s Public–Private Partnership (PPP) framework. This strategic tie-up marks a significant step toward strengthening the Indian Navy’s blue-water capabilities and advancing India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
