TATACHEM
has approved a major ₹910 crore investment to boost production capacity at its plants in Mithapur (Gujarat) and Cuddalore (Tamil Nadu): ₹135 crore will be used to expand dense soda ash at Mithapur, while ₹775 crore is earmarked for scaling up precipitated silica in Cuddalore.
This move aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to deepen its core chemical business and capitalise on growing demand in glass, tyre, and green-chemistry sectors. According to its latest strategy documents, Tata Chemicals is emphasising brownfield expansions and capacity utilisation, while also pursuing sustainable operations.
Though such aggressive capex has risks notably input cost inflation and execution delays, the investment could strengthen Tata Chemicals’ leadership in both basic and specialty chemistry.
